COVID-19 Updates

As of June 15, 2020. A total of 1,176 confirmed cases are affected by the COVID-19 Virus resulting in 51 deaths. The total recovered cases stand at 683 people.

Recent evidence however shows that spread of the COVID-19 is adversely affecting access to and utilization of essential health services. Routine data from Health Management Information System (HMIS) shows a significant decline in uptake of essential health services compared to the same time last year. Reasons for this drop have been attributed to the increasing absence of staff at health facilities coupled with patients’ fear and mistrust.

Without addressing the challenges that can adversely affect essential health service delivery, the country stands to forfeit most of the gains it has made in the health sector as well as suffer the adverse consequences such as increased child and maternal deaths and increased deaths from other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
